I am passionate about bridging the gap between the church and the mental health field and enabling the two to work together to serve those who are hurting.
While many churches partner with me as a referral source because they know they can trust me with those needing individual and couples work, there are actually many ways that we can work together to help those in the church build healthy relationships and emotional lives.
I enjoy being a resource to ministry leaders who are on the front lines in care ministry and would like input on how to support those in their care. I can help staff and lay leaders identify a framework for helping others, develop boundaries in order to avoid burnout, and acquire skills for listening well.
Workshops
Teen Mental Health for Parents of Teens
I offer a workshop for parents of teens on teen mental health, which helps parents understand the mental health struggles of their teens, develop good communication skills with teens, and offers tips on when to seek out a counselor and how to find one they can trust. This works great as a Sunday morning class or a mid-week event.
Avoiding Burnout for Church Staff & Lay Ministry Leaders
This workshop helps leaders discover how to help others without hurting themselves. Participants will learn how to develop self-care strategies that will keep them grounded, healthy, and connected with God. Leaders will leave with the tools needed to anticipate compassion fatigue before it settles into cynicism and full-on burnout. An organization is only as healthy as its leaders, and yet leaders are often the most under-resourced people in the church. This workshop will help your leaders avoid that!
Christian Counselors Network
I have partnered with a colleague to start the Christian Counselors Network (CCN) for the Phoenix area.
CCN often has ministry leaders come to our meetings and provide feedback to Christian counselors and develop partnerships with like-minded counselors as a resource for their congregation. We’ve helped churches find Christian therapists who can help them address everything from anxiety and depression to specialties such as abortion recovery, sex addiction, and missionary care.
